I just seperated from my wife and want to start paying child support before divorce. How much?

I’m not sure how long it will take to finalize the divorce. I love my child and want the best for her. I just don’t know how much I should give until the courts decide.

What is the average percentage of your income to go towards child support? I live in FL.

Ah Ha! Been there and doing that. Go to the DOR (Department of Revenue) link on myflorida.com. You’ll find a table that the state uses to compute child support. The percentages go up per child obviously but 1 child = 33%. The top is 55% of your salary for childsupport only but then they can add in insurance, day care costs plus other things like medical bills. Good luck. I applaud you for caring enough. I’ve been paying for 10 years and never missed a payment.

Talk to your lawyer & get him to help you out. You may also want to make sure that any support you pay now is noted in the divorce papers in case she tries to pull anything.

If all else fails, tell your ex & your daughter to contact you if she needs anything in the interim between now & the divorce. Again, I think that it is best that you handle this through your lawyer so it is all official & documented. It’s too easy for things to go wrong otherwise.

you need to be careful how much you send before the divorce goes through…if your sending more now than is required by court they will probably keep it at your current level. You might try asking your soon to be ex how much she needs.

try going online and googling your local probate court, they usually have something you can fill out to find out exactly what you’ll be paying… child support is black and white…

Usually about 1/3 of your income. If that is not enough, you know it, so pay more. Make sure the childs needs are met; food, shelter, clothes, health, daycare. Sit down with your ex and work it out.

The amount of child support depends on the number of children as follows: one (1) child is eighteen percent (18%); two (2) children are twenty-five percent (25%); three (3) children are twenty-nine percent (29%); four (4) children are thirty-three percent (33%); and each additional child is two percent (2%). Document everything including a signature from you wife that she received the payment each time. Receipts mean nothing unless acknowledged with a signature.

Sorry you are going through the separation and divorce but hurray for you for standing up early and taking care of your child.

The usual amount is 20% of your net pay.

Man good on you, i would think this would be a lawyer discussion, although i have seen support over 1000 per kid, its going to depend alot on your income, but i think 250 should be min

I’m not sure of the percent but I got 420 dollars a month for 2 children at one time in my life…really depends on how much money you make.

Ir’s usually 15 to 20 percent of your salary. Make sure you document all money you give to her for child support. I have friends and family that received or gave cash, with no receipt and then the mom said they never received any money. So always, always, Give a money order, or check, or someway to show that you paid.

Speak to your lawyer first. Make sure you document this money you have given to her before your wife tells the judge what a horrible person you are

sorry to hear! usually that is the first thing that they do when you go to court! In ca is about 17% + spousal support (before taxes) You need to keep very close records. Personal experience do not give you soon to be ex personal checks! VERY VERY dangerous!
