Are there any Family Law Attorney’s on here willing to do probono work or free consultations?
My son is fighting to get his daughter. She was born on 1-6-10. He is in California and she was born in Virginia. The mother is trying to give her up for adoption but cannot do so because my son will not relinquish his rights and she is saying that she will not allow him to have her. I will go into more detail if there is any legal assistance out there to help us.
I would recommend going to the websites of the California and Virginia Bars. They may have a list of lawyers that will do pro bono work or will at least give initial consultations for a reduced fee. You could also see if there is a legal aid society in either area that gives legal assistance to those with no means. Good luck.

what does it take to be a family law attorney?
i am in college now working towards my bachelors in interdisciplinary studies..when i graduate i figure okay i have to get into law school…witht hat said what do i do after that?
What it requires is a strong stomach! For the rest of your life, day in and day out, you will see the fall out of bad marriages. You’ll hear about lying, cheating, wounded children and much more! People who were once in love tearing each other apart. I always wonder how these people can go home and be happy.
That said, during law school or even before, seek internships or other positions in family law offices. Once you get out of law school, you can start as an assistant to an established lawyer.

YES i have called and looked up many different firms so don’t flame and tell me to look it up myself. I am broadening my search by asking in this forum. If you know, then great, if you don’t please don’t bother.
Usually an attorney will ask for a certain amount up front.
Here is one of my examples. I got a divorce some time back. So the lawyer wanted like $3500. that is the retainer. Then due to the time and negogations asked for more maybe another $2000.
When it was over I did get some money back.
Other instances had a tenant and did a lease the attorney wanted $150 up front. A friend did a refinance and contract review was like $150.
The days of payments for service are rare. I really do not think you will find that here. Also we do pay for the service we receive. So professionals want to get it up front for a reason.
